Join to apply for the Director of Information Technology role at USS Midway Museum Join to apply for the Director of Information Technology role at USS Midway Museum The Director of Information Technology is a strategic and hands-on leadership role responsible for the oversight, development, and continuous improvement of the Museums IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, software and hardware management, enterprise applications, user support and technology strategy. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role blends operational excellence with forward-looking planning to support the Museum’s mission and enhance the visitor experience. The Director will ensure reliable, secure, and sustainable systems across all departments. Salary – $120,000 - $160,000 year, commensurate with education / experience. Medical, dental, vision, legal, and life / LTD insurance. 403(b) retirement plan matching 100% of the employee contribution up to 6%, with immediate vesting. 15 vacation days, 10 days of accrued paid sick days per year, and 10 paid holidays. Annual discretionary bonus program Key Success Factors : System Reliability & Performance : Ensure high availability, uptime, and scalability of all systems through proactive monitoring, regular maintenance, and efficient IT service delivery. Strategic Technology Planning : Align IT initiatives with organizational goals by identifying emerging technologies Cybersecurity & Risk Management : Enforce cybersecurity best practices, conduct regular risk assessments, and ensure data privacy and regulatory compliance. Enterprise Applications Oversight : Management of software solutions including CRM, ticketing, donor management, and content management systems. Security Systems Management : Oversight of the museum’s video surveillance security technologies. Budget & Resource Optimization : Develop and manage IT budgets; optimize procurement through vendor negotiation, nonprofit licensing, and cloud-based tools. End-User Support & Training : Foster a service-oriented IT culture by ensuring responsive support, onboarding resources. Primary Responsibilities : Lead strategic planning and execution of IT initiatives that support core museum operations. Manage the Museum’s network infrastructure, cloud services, and systems architecture. Oversee and maintain the Museum’s security camera systems and related surveillance technology, ensuring full operational readiness and secure data retention. Develop and implement cybersecurity policies and practices aligned with industry standards and regulatory requirements. Evaluate and manage enterprise applications for operational departments. Direct IT procurement : develop RFPs, evaluate proposals, negotiate contracts, and maintain vendor relationships. Lead IT budgeting and forecasting in alignment with strategic goals. Supervise IT team members and external consultants, fostering collaboration and innovation. Provide regular updates and recommendations to senior leadership on IT performance, risks, and opportunities. Ensure helpdesk operations meet service-level expectations and promote a responsive, user-first culture. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required : Education & Experience : Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, MIS, or related field. Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in IT, at least 5 years in leadership or management role managing 2 or more employees. Experience in managing IT systems in public facing venues (e.g., tourism, hospitality, attractions, cultural institutions ) strongly preferred . Skills / Abilities Technology and systems knowledge to include : Backup / disaster recovery platforms. CRM, ticketing, and donor platforms -Galaxy Ticketing, Microsoft Dynamics highly preferred Surveillance systems (cloud-managed security camera systems) Security and endpoint protection tools Demonstrated ability to set priorities, create work plans, coordinate resources and systems to monitor multiple projects. Ability to lead, motivate, coach, delegate, and provide performance feedback to IT staff. Effective interpersonal skills with ability to develop collaborative working relationships. Ability to effectively communicate technological needs to senior management. Ability to work with multiple departments to successfully implement a project. Excellent administrative, written, and verbal communications skills. Certifications (preferred) : CISSP, CISM – cybersecurity Network+ or CCNA Working Conditions : On-site position aboard the USS Midway Museum, with work performed in a restored shipboard office environment. Weekend, evening and holiday hours as required. Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, lift small equipment, and navigate historic shipboard spaces. Standard office equipment and computing devices used daily.
