Position Overview

The High School History Teacher will work collaboratively with the academic team to provide rigorous, engaging history instruction to high school students. The teacher will be responsible for fostering an academically challenging yet supportive classroom environment, helping students develop historical thinking skills, and preparing them for success in college and beyond. This teacher will also be integral to the social-emotional development of students, working to build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues to support academic and personal growth.

Essential Duties

Teaching & Instruction:

  • Provide engaging history lessons in a college-prep environment.
  • Foster critical thinking and historical analysis through a variety of instructional strategies.
  • Integrate literacy strategies to enhance historical understanding and reading comprehension.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Use a variety of assessment tools to measure and support student learning.
  • Establish and maintain a positive and supportive classroom atmosphere.

Student & Family Engagement:

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students, parents, and families.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, challenges, and achievements.
  • Support student growth through mentorship and social-emotional development.

Collaboration & Professional Development:

  • Collaborate with fellow SEED staff on curriculum planning, student support, and professional development.
  • Participate in school-wide initiatives, staff meetings, and school events.
  • Continuously improve instructional practices through feedback, workshops, and other professional learning opportunities.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in summer programming, including direct service to incoming and returning SEED students and curriculum development.
  • Assist with general school supervision, including discipline, building safety, and adhering to the school's Model of Care.
  • Contribute to the creation and upkeep of a positive school culture that promotes respect, self-discipline, compassion, responsibility, integrity, and gratitude.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be Highly Qualified as per Florida state certification requirements.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in History, Social Studies, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of teaching experience, preferably at the high school level.
  • Proven success in motivating and educating students to high academic standards.
  • Experience in teaching AP History or similar advanced coursework is a plus.
  • ESOL endorsement is a plus, but not required.
  • Strong understanding of adolescent development and how it relates to instructional practices.
